A key feature of Ocular Robotics capabilities is the integration of a diverse range of optical sensors with the RobotEye technology
to take advantage of the high bandwidth pointing capability and accuracy of RobotEye systems.
At the request of a customer, Ocular Robotics undertook the integration of a spectrometer from ASD Inc. to create a pointable spectral sensing system. The project involved specifying and installing a high transmission optical configuration into our RE01 OEM head that covered the full visible spectrum through to 3μm in the infrared. An essential attribute of the optical system was the requirement that the transmission curve across the target wavelength band be flat so that no optical path features were introduced into the measured spectra. Furthermore, a method for adjusting the field of view of the system was implemented by controlling of the light that is focussed onto the end of the spectrometer's fiber optic cable. Ocular Robotics also developed for the client a pointing control software application to enable easy GUI based control of the system's pointing behaviour, to run alongside ASD's RS3™ spectral acquisition software. The resulting system formed from the combination of the ASD spectrometer and our customised RobotEye RE01 OEM system has enabled the ASD point sensor as a high performance two-axis spectral measurement and mapping system.
