Mark Bishop - CEO, Founder




Mark Bishop received the degrees, B.Sc. in physics and B.E. in mechatronics both from the University of Sydney, Australia in 1998 and 2000 respectively. From 2000 to 2007 he worked in research at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics at the University of Sydney developing sensors for projects in mine automation and autonomous vehicles. After founding Ocular Robotics in 2006 to commercialise the RobotEye technology Mark has worked to position the company as premium supplier of high performance sensor pointing technologies to the robotics, automation and unmanned systems sectors.





Steven Scheding - CTO




Steven Scheding received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in mechatronic engineering from the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. From 1998 to 1999, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Robotics Engineering Consortium, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. He is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, University of Sydney. His research interests include the automation of large outdoor vehicles, fault detection and identification, and algorithms and sensors for perception in unstructured environments.





Ray Miller B.Com, FAICD, FCPA. - Director




Ray is a seasoned business executive and director with extensive and diverse experience in managing a range of businesses both in Australia and internationally. He has formerly held a number of senior executive positions including Chief Financial Officer at both MIM Ltd and for the combined BHP Coal and Iron Ore global businesses and Managing Director of Gallipoli Mining Pty Ltd. In addition Ray has held a number of positions on advisory boards in Australia and internationally. He now acts as an independent Director and Chairman on two publicly listed companies, Qmastor which operates in the Technology sector and Meridian Minerals.

Ray brings to Ocular extensive experience in finance, commerce, operational and technology management, strategy development, risk management, global markets and importantly Governance. He is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.




Advisory Board



Hugh Durrant-Whyte




Hugh Durrant-Whyte received the B.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of London, U.K., in 1983, and the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees, both in Systems Engineering, from the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., in 1985 and 1986, respectively. From 1987 to 1995, he was a Lecturer in Engineering Science, the University of Oxford, U.K. From 1995 to 2002 he was Professor of Mechatronic Engineering at University of Sydney. He has been awarded two Australian Research Council (ARC) Federation Fellowships; in 2002 and 2007. He currently leads the ARC Centre of Excellence in Autonomous Systems and is the Research Director of the (Australian) Defence Centre of expertise in uninhabited and autonomous systems, and the Rio Tinto Centre for Mine Automation. His research work focuses on autonomous vehicle navigation and decentralised data fusion methods. His work in applications includes automation in cargo handling, mining, defence, and marine systems.
He has published over 350 technical papers and has won numerous awards and prizes for his work. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Technical Sciences, a Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Robotics Society Distinguished Lecturer.





Olga Sawtell BA.LLB.




Olga's interest in R&D commenced with her directorship at The Australian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturing Association (AEEMA) and also as Chair and Director of Space which started back in 1986 and where she remained a director and chairman for 11years. Since then, she has been actively involved in getting start ups to market, where she has had some great successes. Olga was a Director for 5 years of the Industry Research and Development Board, where she also chaired the IT Committee. Today she is the Chief Executive of the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, (ACFR) arguably the world leader in today's quest for automation of large moving vehicles in unstructured environments. Olga is also the Chief Executive of Acumine Pty Ltd, a start up company spun out of the ACFR. Olga is currently a member of GAP and the Australian Government Consultative Committee for Knowledge Capital which is a group of Australian business people chosen by the Government to consult with the Federal Government on initiatives to support small to medium Industry particularly as regards Technology driven initiatives.
